Todd Cordell: On Da Costa and Auvitu

Is he a RW? If not, I'm beginning to worry about having too many cooks in the kitchen. I want to see Q. I want to see Wood and Blandisi, or even McLeod. I want to see Patrick or Hischier start on the third line.

Would love to add Auvitu as a #5-6 defenseman if we don't grab Cody Franson instead.

Think he could pair real nicely with Haydn Fleury next season.

He shoots right so I'm sure he could play RW.

Is he an RFA (capfriendly), and if so, does anyone know the reason why? He turns 28 this summer. If he is an RFA, at the very least the Devils could get a late round pick for his rights. Or maybe Shero is smart enough to give him another shot. If he wants to play in the NHL that badly, maybe he gives it another go.

If he's an UFA (NHL numbers), he obviously won't be back (with the Devils).

They (frank)ed him and the fans when they installed Alain Nesreddine's crappy defensive system and told Hall of Famer and co-head coach Scott Stevens to take a walk...
But yeah they did a masterful job burying Auvitu in the minors so we could feature Dalton Prout.

Got the 1st overall pick out of it though.

I liked Auvitu...good all around game... he was one of the better Devils' d, statistically. I think they were being political and kept guys up based on contract. He was probably on a two-way and they didn't want to give money to another guy on a one way to play in AHL.

This is also going to be the biggest reasons he doesn't return to NJ.

Ugh Dalton Prout. Can't believe we traded Quincey for an even worst defenseman. Shero is known to usually win out on trades but that was definitely one for the L column.
